Hotjar
Hotjar gives you heatmaps.
Not answers.
If you’re using Hotjar for UX insights, you’re likely watching replays and heatmaps…
…but still guessing what’s really hurting your conversions.
Here’s where the native UI falls short and what you unlock by exporting:
1. Checkout Drop-Off? Still a mystery.
Yes, Hotjar tracks session replays.
Yes, you can filter for checkout pages.
But it won’t tell you how many users drop off at each step (Shipping → Payment → Confirmation).
There are no funnel summaries or step-by-step conversion rates.
👉 Fix it with a data export:
→ Classify sessions by checkout step.
→ Calculate drop-off %.
→ Spot patterns.
2. Navigation Clicks? Fragmented and misleading.
Hotjar shows nav clicks per page but not site-wide.
Want to know how many clicked “Shop All” overall? You’re on your own.
👉 Fix it with a data export:
→ Pull click data across all pages.
→ Group by element ID or CSS class.
→ Rank what’s getting real attention.
3. Paths and Segments? Not in the UI.
Hotjar captures metadata (device, country, user type) but you can’t:
- View step-by-step user paths
- Segment by campaign or conversion behavior
- Correlate behavior with feedback
👉 Fix it with a data export:
→ Group sessions by exit URL, visit depth, or device.
→ Build funnels.
→ Segment rage clicks vs. converters.
That’s already a huge upgrade, and that’s just with Hotjar data.
Want more?
Once you export session data, you can mix it with other tools to dig deeper:
📍 Customer Journey Analysis
→ Combine with HubSpot data.
→ See which sessions align with sales-ready leads.
📍 Conversion Rate Optimization
→ Merge with Shopify data.
→ Spot how behavioral differences impact sales.
📍 Segmentation & Targeting
→ Blend with Klaviyo data.
→ Tailor UX based on campaign behavior.
You don’t need more recordings.
You need better questions and answers your tools won’t give you.
